New achievement of Vietnam on the race of zero-waste: coconut straw

Create straws from coconut water, after finishing the drink, you can eat the straw like eating jelly!

At the end of 2018, early 2019, the zero-waste movement exploded with a series of friendly straws, replacing plastic straws. Today, the use of metal straws, bamboo or paper is no longer strange to young people.

But the search for plastic alternatives has never stopped. Every day, people get new surprise because the creativity sounds utopian, but completely real.

This is a product of a company processing products from coconut in Vietnam. Realizing that coconut water is high in fiber, acting as a strong bonding fiber; the creative team wondered: Can coconut water be turned from dilute to solid enough to make a straw?

By fermenting coconut water biotechnology, we can obtain a large amount of fiber, enough to make straws. According to the company, this is a fairly familiar method; which has been used to produce coconut jelly and coconut paper mask.

At first glance, coconut water straw looks like a plastic straw, with 3 different sizes for normal drinking water to milk tea. It can be soaked in liquid for 1 hour without pimples; when burning does not produce black smoke and decomposes in the natural environment after 30 days, becoming beneficial organic fertilizer.

Of course, because it is made entirely from biological material, so you can …. eat straws right after use without harming the body. With this discovery, the environmental activists in Vietnam have officially entered the race of “edible materials”, which is very bustling around the world. Let’s wait for the coconut water straws to be produced in mass so that we can enjoy this amazing drinking straw!
