During the Covid-19 epidemic, the Ministry of Health recommended that people minimize going out and wear masks to minimize the risk of disease spread. Therefore, masks are considered essential goods in great demand but lack supply. Capture the market weakness; startup of coffee ground shoes; ShoeX has researched and manufactured the first coffee masks called AirX.

Le Thanh, founder of ShoeX, says the world is throwing away millions of disposable masks and AirX will be one of the sustainable solutions. The mask made from coffee fibers ensures the antibacterial that can be reused many times, saves the user and most importantly protects the environment thanks to the biodegradability.

According to Le Thanh, AirX is not only an effort of the enterprise to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic but also a sustainable solution to save the environment. In particular, the 4 criteria that ShoeX puts in the initiative on coffee masks include: environment, antibacterial, economical, fashionable.

First about the environment, according to statistics during the Covid-19 pandemic raging in China, 116 million tons of masks were consumed every day. Especially during the peak of the outbreak; hospitals in Wuhan discharged about 240 tons of medical waste and every day; most of 7.4 million Hong Kong people throw away disposable masks every day.

Similar situation with other countries, this is the same concern of observers throughout the season. Facing that situation; AirX is a solution to make the mask have a longer life; because of the environment.

Talking about antibacterial properties, AirX masks use 99.99% dual antibacterial technology with 2 layers of protection. The outer layer is woven with coffee fibers, using PowerKnit technology, washable every day. Inside is a biodegradable membrane; manufactured using a technology that combines Nano Silver and Coffee. Each filter can be used for up to 30 days without washing; with AATCCC 100 certificate certified by QUATEST 3.

In terms of product price, AirX is currently in the package of 5 units with the price of 445,000 VND / package, equivalent to 89,000 VND / unit. AirX’s retail price is 99,000 VND / unit. Thus, the cost for users will be about VND 3,000 / day for the first month and VND 1,000 / day for the remaining months; when it only needs to replace filters after 30 days of use. Economic twice as fast as disposable medical masks with an average cost of VND 6,000 / day.

Compared to medical masks sold in packages of 50 pieces, coffee masks have a higher price. However, while medical masks only use for one time, ShoeX’s masks are similar to cloth masks, washable and reusable. “Facemask with 99.99% antibacterial resistance at the same time with the selling price; users can save up to 1,000 VND – 3,000 VND a day,” Le Thanh said.

Each AirX coffee mask is stored separately in each dedicated 3-layer packaging; to ensure maximum disinfection function of the membrane filter with Nano Silver particles. The difference of this mask is the natural aroma of coffee; making the responsibility of “wearing a mask” is no longer something too stifling but more relaxing and more comfortable.
